Engineering Recruitment – Market Commentary – January 2023

Engineering recruitment activity has accelerated again and our job boards across all of our specialised recruitment consultant teams are strong in quantity and deep in quality. Really interesting and diverse roles across Australia are currently awaiting to be filled, so if you have been considering or contemplating a possible move during your recent end of year holidays, now is the perfect time to connect with us and it would be our pleasure to assist you with either open positions or alternatively by us reaching to our client contacts and potentially creating a role suitable for you.

Recently it has become apparent there recruitment scams emerging in our market. This is a real shame that such operators exist and seek to hurt candidates and defraud out of them money and also damage and tarnish the reputation of reputable recruitment agencies.  Should you be approached by anyone purporting to be a recruitment consultant from Australia Wide who is asking for any financial details, please stop talking to them immediately and call us on 03–9847-6500 or 02-8046-4555.

If you are interested to review our current job boards, please check out our open positions on https://www.australiawide.com.au/jobs/. Alternatively check us out on our LinkedIn site https://www.linkedin.com/company/137675/admin/

Hope you enjoy our latest market commentary, and we very much look forward to hearing from you.

Engineering & Manufacturing Operations

There was a time when putting out an advertisement for an experienced CAD Design Engineer would yield 100+ qualified candidates. Today, we would struggle to secure a dozen applications with varying levels  of suitability. We therefore now rely far less on advertisements but rather use headhunting approaches through the various channels and networks available to Australia Wide Engineering Recruitment.

We continually encourage our clients to widen their criteria to include candidates who may not be a 100% fit in experience or expertise and to complement their skills with training & development. Where you would once secure the services of an employee who could hit the ground running, making an immediate impact, it is now a case of planning in advance, and addressing the needs of tomorrow rather than the needs of today. It is also important for employers to ask themselves: “what are we offering that will persuade a candidate to leave their current employment and join our team?”

Fortunately, we have many roles available for those interested in taking their careers in another direction. A few of our current roles include; Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Risk Engineers, Sales Managers, Business Development Managers, etc. There is no better time to contemplate a career change, or perhaps further education to help enable a career change.

This year’s summer break has seen a reset from both a hiring manager and potential candidate perspective, versus a very quiet November and December. Yes, there are definitely more open roles as hiring managers set themselves up for the year ahead.

Building & Mechanical Services

The new year continues with companies still displaying a big appetite for new talent in the Building & Mechanical Services sector.

We have client requirements for Graduate Mechanical/Commerce Engineers, Senior Fire Protection/Services Engineers, Senior Electrical Engineers and other types of Building Services Engineers.  You could be from a contractor or someone who has had enough of engineering consultancing. Either way, there are some great opportunities.

Please visit our website to apply for these roles and more.

Technology

As we enter 2023, we have been inundated with many new roles from both existing and new clients, offering exciting work opportunities and projects. Unfortunately, we are still experiencing a market with few skilled candidates available. However, due to these circumstances, our clients are progressing through interview stages far quicker than before, recognising that they don’t have the time to waste when interviewing solid, quality candidates.

At Australia Wide Engineering Recruitment, we endeavour to always offer our candidates guidance on their career journey, whereby we will help you update your resume portfolio where necessary, prepare you for your interviews, and provide assistance with eventual job offers. We are currently working with some exciting companies – for example, one organisation which has been named one of Australia’s top 100 most innovative companies creating a new generation of autonomous electric vehicles, another is an ASX listed world-leading technology company and yet another is offering training and experience for the right person within mechatronics.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of us to discuss any of our Engineering/Technology roles listed on our job board or for an open conversation on career development pathways.
