Greig Connell Memorial Scholarship

Just over 2 years ago we lost our friend & colleague Greig Connell after several strokes. We’re so pleased that Greig’s family have decided to honour his memory by establishing the Greig Connell Memorial Scholarship, awarded each year to a female engineering student at Swinburne University of Technology University.

Greig was an engineer himself and completed his Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at Swinburne University in 1974. He then went on to work with Exxon Mobil prior to moving into Engineering Recruitment. Greig was a director with Australia Wide Personnel (Australia Wide Engineering Recruitment) and was one of the leaders of engineering recruitment in Australia for many years. Greig assisted the careers of many Engineers and was particularly passionate about advocating for greater representation of females in Engineering.

The 2022 winner of the Greig Connell Memorial Scholarship is Madeline Dutton who is doing her Honours year at Swinburne. She’s involved heavily with 3-D printing and using sustainable plastics and has worked very hard to get to this stage – for the last 7 years she’s worked casually as a receptionist. She is 27 years old and completed her Diploma in Engineering first before moving on to bachelor’s studies. A very worthy recipient of the inaugural Greig Connell Memorial Scholarship and we at Australia Wide wish Madeline all the very best in her career.
